What is the essence of what you do?

Hi there, I am a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). I graduated from Brown Mackie College with an Associate of Applied Science for Occupational Therapy Assisting. I have experience working with kids in both the school and clinic setting. I love both settings!

Your Personal Interests?

I love spending time with my family, shopping, swimming, volunteering at Special Olympics Events, and helping others (whether it’s feeding the homeless or teaching children’s church). When I’m not hanging out with family, I’m likely studying, restyling my hair or polishing my teeth- I am seriously obsessed with them.

What do you believe (quote that describes you):

If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded. -Maya Angelou

What do you like most about your job?

You know how people say that if you choose a job you love, you never have to work a day in your life? I absolutely love my job! Seeing the growth that our kids make through therapeutic play is beyond fascinating. I learn something new every day and have a great support team behind me. Awesome kids, great co-workers and playing all day—Dream Come True.

Why did you choose to become an Occupational Therapist?

I have always had a special place in my heart for individuals with special needs ever since my younger sibling was diagnosed with an intellectual disability earlier in life. I want to be a part of a child’s journey—I want to help them enhance their self-esteem and realize that he/she can accomplish anything that they set their mind to.

What do patients like most about you? And your organization?

A patient once told me, Miss. Ariel, you act like my big sister! I feel that what my patients like most about me is my sense of humor and my friendly, yet competitive nature—it pushes the kids to work harder while having a little fun of my own. I treat each of the kids like they are a part of my family– we can have fun, share laughs and learn all at the same time.

SMART Pediatric Therapy is received so well by our clients because we like to put family first- we keep parents informed and do our best to make sure that both parents and kids leave with a sense of fulfillment.
